UPDATE WITH IMPORTANT INFORMATION

We have had a change in location for our barbecue event, so we want to let you all know about that now.  We will be having all events at Jo and Gary Bryan's house at 102 Independence Creek Lane.  John and Linda have put their house on the market, so we need to stay out of their way so they can show it and sell it.  They are moving to Sun City whenever their house sells and their new house gets built.  Exciting news.

When you come to our house, please watch out for deer.  We have a lot of deer in Sun City and they think they own the roads.  I guess they do in a way since we moved into their homesite.  Turkeys may also claim the road.  Lots of animals here.  It is especially important to watch out for them after dark and at dusk, as they come out of nowhere. This was in my back yard.

The wildflowers are in bloom.  I'm attaching a link so you can look at some of the scenic drives that will be available if you want to go wildflowers viewing.  This picture was made two blocks from downtown Georgetown of red poppies, which will be coming into bloom around the time you come.  Georgetown is the Red Poppy Capitol and the Georgetown Red PoppyFestival is April 28, so hopefully there will be red poppies for you to see as well.  They come out later than the bluebonnets and Indian Paintbrush.

Second Saturdays are Market Days in Georgetown, so the Saturday of the reunion there will be lots of booths and tables and fun stuff to browse and buy on the Square.  Artisans of all types will be there with their wares.  The square will be blocked off, and you will have to park in one of the parking lots off the square.  One is two blocks west of the square on eighth near the Georgetown LIbrary.  The other is on Main Street and Ninth, a block south of the square, and east one block.  It is a bustling street fair, and this will be the first one of the year, which will bring lots of folks out if the weather is pretty.  The shops on the square are also fun and different, so there will be lots to do on the square on Saturday.  Here is a map of downtown Georgetown.

One thing I failed to mention as a nice day trip is the Wildflower Center south of Austin.  The wildflowers should be in full bloom there for the reunion, so it is a great time to go.  I've gone three times to see the flowers during wildflower season and never been disappointed.  Lady Bird Johnson developed this and one time I went, I actually ran into her there!  Here is info about it.

Looking forward to seeing all of you soon!

Lots of things to do in Georgetown

There is a lot to do in our sleepy little town of Georgetown, so I wanted to share some of it with you before the reunion in case you want to come early or stay a few extra days and make a vacation of it.  Georgetown has won the Best Town Square in the Country many years.  Here is a Trip Advisor link to let you follow your heart to see all the things available in Georgetown.

Here is a link to another site that gives more info on Georgetown:

Here is the Georgetown Chamber site, which has specific info about attractions nearby, including Space Caverns in Georgetown, Fredricksburg Wineries, and many more.  It also has other links to things happening here that weekend:

https://visit.georgetown.org/

The Austin Statesman just published a huge article on what to do in Georgetown last week-end.  Here is a link to that article:

The Red Poppy Festival is the week-end of April 28, so you will miss it, but hopefully there will be fields and fields of beautiful wildflowers when you come.  I've already seen some bluebonnets in yards, which get more water than the fields, so they will bloom earlier.  But we've had some great rain this month, so that and the early sunshine and warm days we've had will bring them out.  Driving on Hwy 281 or FM 29 should give you some good views as you drive to Georgetown.  The more you get into the Hill Country toward Fredricksburg and Marble Falls, and off the main thoroughfare, the more you will see.  But there will be plenty, I hope, on the way here.  The Texas Highway Department does a good job of seeding the highways with wildflowers around here, so it will probably be hard to miss them.  I've seen a couple of purple plum trees in bloom, and forsythia in bloom, and the oak, ash and elm are all putting out leaves.  So hopefully you will see some color.  We have color almost year round in Sun City, so I hope it will be in full color for your arrival.  Please email me if you have any questions.  I'll tell you what I know, which may not be perfect.

One other thing I found out last week is that the Sheraton gives a Sun City discount if you are visiting someone in Sun City.  So if you have decided to stay at the Sheraton, you can ask for the Sun City discount and tell them you are visiting Sun City.  That is where the Bryans, McGarraughs and Sue Payne live.  Also, for many of you, you may know that Howard and Jane Hammerbeck and Marita and Dennis Carroll live here in Sun City.  So we have a good contingent of Perryton folks here.  I will be available just after noon Thursday if any of you want a tour.  But we can probably arrange one for you later in the week-end if you are interested.  email me if you are interested and I'll start a list.  I can get 5 people in my car, but we could also have you follow in your car if there are more than will fit in mine.   My email is jobryanartist@gmail.com.   Home phone 512-868-3560  cell 806-676-3135.  Looking forward to seeing you.  We currently have the following registrations:

Leicht John Linda
Jackson Corline Grant
Kile Bobby Leahwana
Alexander Charlie Pam
Coulter Steve Susan
Clark Penny
Bryan Gary Jo
McGarraugh Raymond Kay
Payne Sue
Ward Lois
Foster Sandra Benny
Bruce Dan Nancy

We are waiting to get yours!!!  Send in your registration and $$$$ for registration, $25 each.

Reunion Information

Perryton Class of 1962
55th Class Reunion in Georgetown, Texas

Greetings Class of 62!  Penny has designated the 55th class reunion as one to take an adventure.  At our ages, we all need an adventure, right?  Well, this year, the reunion will be in Georgetown, Texas, because we have so many of our Class of 1962 members living here.  Besides, it is a fun place to come in the spring.  We have decided to have it in April when the wildflowers will be in extravagant bloom, and the weather is not yet hot (we hope.)  We need you to sign up and send in your deposit for you and your spouse, and we will do the leg work here.  We have not filled the times with every hour busy so that you can use the time here to enjoy the area, too.  Here are the plans as we have them so far:

Thursday, April 6:  Arrival in Georgetown, Texas and check in to Hotel/B&B (some info included; more on blog in future.   See below.)

5:00-8:00  Open house at Jo and Gary Bryan’s with snacks and lots of room to visit and enjoy each other’s company.  BYOB if you want cokes or wine or beer.  We will have water and ice.  102  Independence Creek Lane, Georgetown, Texas.   Park on street in front of our house or on down our street, but not on the main thoroughfare (Cool Springs)

Friday, April 7:  9:00-11:00  Coffee and Donuts at Jo and Gary Bryan’s

Saturday, April 8:  In the morning:  If there is interest, we can meet at the Monument Cafe for breakfast at 9:00.  500 South Austin.  We will decide this Friday night and announce it if there is interest.  This is also a good time to go drive the area to see the wildflowers, go to Austin and do the Capitol, hit the outlet mall, shop in downtown Georgetown, etc.

Saturday, April 8 in the afternoon:  We will plan a wine tasting midafternoon, and there will be a separate charge for this. We will send out more detailed information later for this to those who ask for the info.

There is so much to do in the area, we want you to have time to enjoy it.  Some have said they want to go on the Fredericksburg; some want to shop; some want to go to Austin and do the Austin stuff; some want to see the wildflowers.  So we have limited the events to allow you to do all those things. Jo has started a blog that will list lots of things you can do in the area, and more info as it comes out from local events advertised, etc.  Plus I’ll share good wildflower drives, etc.  Feel free to enter your plans on the blog, and ask questions.  If you have problems getting to the blog, email me at jobryanartist@gmail.com and I’ll add you to the list to email the blog to you when I make a post.  The blog address is:  perrytonclass62.blogspot.com

But we do need to have you register for the week-end.  Please fill out the attached reservation form with your contact info, indicate whether you are interested in the wine tasting, and return to us with $25 per person.  Please make your check out to Jo Bryan.  The $25 will cover all food at the appetizer event, coffee and donut event, and barbecue, and cover our postage, etc.  We will need the reservation by March 25.  But if your plans change and you find you can come after that, give us a call.  We can add you, but need the big numbers for our caterer by then.
